Researchers have been completely decoded the genetic code of lung and skin cancer that are common types of cancer. This scientific achievement has increased the researchers' hope to improve the treatment of cancer. According to the researchers, access to map genetics of cancer helps to its easier diagnose through blood tests and guides the development of new medications. A team of researchers from ten countries are studying the genetic map of cancer. British researchers are investigating breast cancer. In Japan, they are studying on liver cancer and oral cancer is studying in India. Chinese scientists are studying stomach cancer and study on genetic map of ovarian, brain and pancreatic cancer has been given to US researchers. The International Cancer Genome Consortium expects the completion of genetics of cancer's list can take up to five years. Michael Stratton, who is leader of this British team in the consortium, said: "these lists will change our understanding of the various cancers' performance". He continued: "By identifying all the cancer genes we will be able to produce new medications that could target the mutated genes". Researchers said that in study of genetic code of skin cancer they found 30,000 wrong functions that almost most of it was caused by exposure to sunlight. The genetic material related to lung cancer also has twenty-three thousand mistakes that bulk of it is created by the cigarette smoke. Researchers say on average, smoking each 15 cigarettes is the equivalent with a mutation in the DNA of smokers. Most of these mutations are harmless, but some can be dangerous and carcinogenic. Cancer experts have welcomed the publication of this research's results. The Institute of Cancer Research said in a statement: "By uncovering the genome of a greater number of cancer types, we found a better understanding of the origin of these diseases and our ability is going to be better to prevent, diagnose and treat it".
